The Octoberfest – “Cruise to Nowhere” looks like it will be October 3rd.
The object is to best predict the order of finish of the participants followed by a very serious beer tasting contest

It is not too early to start thinking about the 2010 Ocrafolk Festival which will be on the weekend of June 4-6. Reserve that space for this wonderful event.

Recent Events

The WYTC held its 20th annual Whortonsville Summer Solstic Sailebration this past June 20th. 40 boats competed over the usual 10 miles course in light 12 knot breezes from the south south. Ken Small sailed his Pearson 34 to victory over the ten mile course. Second place went to Skip Fenner, in his Tartan 37, and third place honors were taken by Charley Garrett in his O’Day 30. Mick Roberts finished in fourth place in his Schock 20. In it’s 20 year history, no skipper has ever won more than once over this 10 mile course.

Once again in early June, 6 WYTC boats cruised to Ocracoke for the Ocrafolk festival. There were more boats from WYTC than any other club.

Some WYTC boats are made a trip to Cape Lookout for the 4th of July.

On Labor Day weekend four boats headed out to Cape Lookout for what was promised to be a wonderful four days of beautiful weather. It is hard to imagine how the forecast could have been more wrong. In four days we made it to the beach between the raindrops for about two hours. The remaider of the time it was blowing and pouring so hard, visability was limited. It turned out to be the perfect weekend to look for leaks.

This year only one WYTC boat made it to the Spirit of Christmas celebration and that one boat was LAYLA. LAYLA not only made it but was about the most decked out yacht in Oriental.

Octoberfest
Nine boats entered this year’s Octoberfest “Cruise to Nowhere” closed course cruise non-race. Due to lack of wind, it really turned out to be a non-race and was officially cancelled. The annual Beer Tasting Competition more than made up for the lack of competition on the water. Fourteen contestents, including two ladies, tested their tasting talents on each of the six beers. The lead changed several times, but when the suds settled, both Bill Deighton and Don Scales were locked in a dead heat with four out of six correct choices and both were awarded WYTC burgees. The runners-up all went home to practice up for next year.
